Three personal rules that keep me on top of my game
Life often feels overwhelming and complex, leaving us feeling lost and unsure how to navigate its challenges. Everybody experiences hardship, but not everybody handles it with equal calmness and swiftness.
In the past few years, systems thinking has emerged as an effective method for maneuvering life’s many challenges. Another way to set yourself up for the uncertainty of life is establishing mental models and personal rules to provide a set of guidelines to follow, making life easier and more manageable — especially in moments of chaos.
Mental models are simplified representations of complex systems or situations that allow us to understand and make decisions more easily. On the other hand, personal rules are self-imposed guidelines that help us make choices and navigate our daily lives.
This article will explore three simple mental models and personal rules I’ve adapted over the past seven years to decrease mental culture, increase productivity, and calm anxieties. They may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but they’re simple rules you can easily customize to fit your lifestyle.
