Great piece, I think many people view this process as completely disassociating from past friends too. I have many friends I've outgrown but we'll still go for a coffee or beer once or twice a year to catch up. Just because we might not be in constant communication or part of one another lives doesn't necessarily mean we have to be stranger either.
