The next five adventure activities on my bucket list

Since I can remember, I’ve been afraid of needles and heights. My fear of needles stems from a slew of allergy tests I had at a young age. I’ve yet to decipher where my fear of heights originated.

When I started college, I was determined to overcome these two fears — or at least desensitize myself to the hold they had over me.

A few tattoos, a couple plasma donations, and a recent cancer diagnosis have gone a long way to dampen my fear of needles. It was a gradual process and not entirely voluntary (plasma donations for spending cash and beer money, cancer diagnosis outside my control).

My approach to overcoming my fear of heights was more straightforward. On an insignificant weekend during my sophomore year of college, I decided to go skydiving… alone. It was exhilarating and a memory I’ll never forget.

Skydiving eventually led to hang gliding, hot air ballooning, paragliding, and a flight lesson.

These experiences have created a thirst for adrenaline-inducing activities — and I’m always looking for the next adventure to get my heart rate going.
