A Note on Starting

I’ve written some version of this post at least 50 different times over the past year. It starts with expressing how much I want to create and my desire to let out the ideas caged inside my brain. Then conflict is inserted — school gets in the way, a global pandemic delays progress, work ramps up, or life simply catches up with me.

Something always gets in the way and the plans and projects that I get so excited about ideating stay in the ideation phase. And then, ultimately, I make a bold claim stating that this time change is coming, and I will finally put all the pieces together. And so, the cycle repeats.

It’s quite a terrible cycle — excitement followed by excuses with no execution.

I’m not going to promise the post is the start of anything different. If the past is any indication, this is just another burst of excitement bound to be followed by excuses. But that’s not what this has to be. Instead, it can be the first small step in a new journey of self-betterment.

A journey founded in action and consistency. A reprioritization of patience and commitment to the long game.

Baby Steps.
